Christmas day

Christmas message from our incoming priest Fr Vijay

Dear Beloved Parishioners of APWB,

As the joyful season of Christmas approaches, I extend my warm greetings to each one of you. It is a time to celebrate the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ a moment that changed the course of history and continues to transform our lives today. The Christmas story is a reminder of God’s immeasurable love for humanity. The angel’s announcement to the shepherds was not just news but good news of great joy for all people (Luke 2:10). This joy echoes through the ages and reaches us today, calling us to reflect on its meaning and share it with others.

A few years ago, in a small town, a boy named Samuel loved Christmas. But this year, Samuel's family was going through tough times. His father had lost his job, and the festive season looked bleak. There, would be no lavish meals, sparkling lights, or gifts under the tree. Samuel’s mother tried to reassure him, saying, “Christmas is not about things; it’s about the joy of Christ.”

One snowy evening, Samuel noticed an elderly neighbor, Mrs. Peterson, sitting alone on her porch. He remembered his mother’s words and decided to act. Samuel went home, took a small loaf of bread they had, wrapped it in a cloth, and walked over to Mrs. Peterson’s house. With a shy smile, he offered her the bread, saying, “Merry Christmas, Mrs. Peterson!”

The elderly woman’s eyes filled with tears. She invited Samuel inside, and they shared the bread together. As they talked and laughed, the warmth of their companionship filled the room. Later, Mrs. Peterson told Samuel, “This is the best Christmas I’ve had in years.” Though Samuel had little, his small act of kindness reflected the joy of Christmas, a joy that comes not from material abundance but from love, giving, and the presence of Christ in our hearts.

The Joy of Christmas in Our Lives: Samuel’s story reminds us that the true joy of Christmas lies not in the decorations, gifts, or feasts, but in celebrating the gift of Jesus Christ. He came into the world in the humblest of circumstances, born in a manger, to bring hope and salvation to all people.

1. Joy in God’s Love: At Christmas, we celebrate the ultimate expression of God’s love. In John 3:16, we read, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” This love is unconditional, unchanging, and accessible to everyone. No matter where you are in life, God’s love is a source of unshakable joy.

2. Joy in Sharing with Others: Just as Samuel shared what little he had with Mrs. Peterson, Christmas calls us to share the love of Christ with those around us. It may be through a kind word, a listening ear, or an act of generosity. When we reach out to others, we reflect the heart of Christ and experience the joy that comes from giving.

3. Joy in the Promise of Hope: The birth of Jesus is a reminder that light shines in the darkness, and the darkness cannot overcome it (John 1:5). Whether you are facing challenges, uncertainties, or pain, the message of Christmas is one of hope. In Christ, we have the assurance that God is with us Emmanuel, and that He will guide us through every season.

Our Call This Christmas: As we gather to celebrate Christmas at the Anglican Parish of Waterloo Bay, let us reflect on how we can embody the joy of Christ in our community.

1. Worship with Gratitude: Attend our Christmas services with a heart full of thanksgiving. Let the carols, prayers, and Scripture readings remind you of God’s goodness.

2. Extend Kindness: Look for opportunities to bless someone in need. It could be through a donation, a meal, or simply spending time with someone who feels lonely.

3. Embrace Simplicity: In the busyness of the season, take a moment to pause and focus on what truly matters, the presence of Jesus in your life.

Let us pray: Heavenly Father, We thank You for the gift of Your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who brings joy, hope, and salvation to the world. As we celebrate Christmas, fill our hearts with gratitude for Your love and open our eyes to the needs of those around us. Help us to share the joy of Christ in our words and actions, so that others may know the wonder of Your grace. May this season renew our faith and draw us closer to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Closing Words: This Christmas, let us remember that the joy of the season is not found in what we have, but in whom we worship Jesus Christ our Lord, the Light of the World. May His love fill your hearts and homes, and may His joy overflow into the lives of those around you.

To all the parishioners of the Anglican Parish of Waterloo Bay, I wish you a blessed and joyful Christmas on behalf of my family and myself. May the peace of Christ reign in your hearts now and always. Amen.

With Peace and blessings,

Fr. Vijay Davidson
